James Gadiel

I used to call James Gadiel, Jimmy... I remember goofing around with schullery, case, kovacs, & tripp in Fellow's calculus class... if it wasn't for jimmy i don't think i would have ever done any of the homework, got better than a "D" on a quiz, or even pass the class... you see, calculus and I didn't get along, and jimmy, even if he didn't know it, helped me do well and maintain my status in the National Honor Society... i hope that i was able to help him along the way. thanks jimmy, never forgotten.. pedro

I think TS Guitar man is next...

In the August update to the Atlantic hurricane season outlook, NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center has increased the likelihood of an above-normal hurricane season and has raised the total number of named storms and hurricanes that may form. Forecasters attribute this adjustment to atmospheric and oceanic conditions across the Atlantic Basin that favor storm development - combined with the strong early season activity.
NOAA now projects an 85 percent probability of an above-normal season – up from 65 percent in May. The updated outlook includes a 67 percent chance of 14 to 18 named storms, of which seven to 10 are expected to become hurricanes, including three to six major hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. These ranges encompass the entire season, which ends November 30, and include the five storms that have formed thus far.
In May, the outlook called for 12 to 16 named storms, including six to nine hurricanes and two to five major hurricanes. An average Atlantic hurricane season has 11 named storms, including six hurricanes and two major hurricanes.

“Leading indicators for an above-normal season during 2008 include the continuing multi-decadal signal – atmospheric and oceanic conditions that have spawned increased hurricane activity since 1995 – and the lingering effects of La Niña,” said Gerry Bell, Ph.D., lead seasonal hurricane forecaster at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center. “Some of these conditions include reduced wind shear, weaker trade winds, an active West African monsoon system, the winds coming off of Africa and warmer-than-average water in the Atlantic Ocean.”
Another indicator favoring an above-normal hurricane season is a very active July, the third most active since 1886. Even so, there is still a 10 percent chance of a near normal season and a five percent chance of a below normal season.
Hurricane Dolly on July 23, 2008.

NOAA’s hurricane outlook is a general guide to the expected level of hurricane activity for the entire season. NOAA does not make seasonal landfall predictions since hurricane landfalls are largely determined by the weather patterns in place as a hurricane approaches.
Five named storms have formed already this season. Tropical Storm Arthur affected the Yucatan Peninsula in late May and early June. Bertha was a major hurricane and the longest-lived July storm (July 3-20) on record. Tropical Storm Cristobal skirted the North Carolina coastline. Dolly made landfall as a Category 2 hurricane at South Padre Island, Texas on July 23. And on August 5, Tropical Storm Edouard struck the upper Texas coast.

“It is critical that everyone know the risk for your area, and have a plan to protect yourself, your family and your property, or to evacuate if requested by local emergency managers. Be prepared throughout the remainder of the hurricane season,” Bell said. “Even people who live inland should be prepared for severe weather and flooding from a tropical storm or a hurricane.”
The Atlantic hurricane season includes activity over the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. The peak months of the season are August through October.NOAA understands and predicts changes in the Earth's environment, from the depths of the ocean to the surface of the sun, and conserves and manages our coastal and marine resources.

Hurricane Bertha near Bermuda on July 31, 1990 with winds of 80 mph
(looks like she had such a good time last time that she came back for more)

One of the manygreat things that has grown outta this blog has been the comment section... Mainly its the cast of merry pranksters spewing insightful garbage at each other, however there are lurkers out there who need to identify themselves, I see you, i have spies... I devilshly invite the merry pranksters and the LocoSurf heads to describe their most memorable Bertha experience or what Bertha has meant to you as a person, as a surfer, or as a dog... Please add your comments/responses and IDENTIFY yourself...

pedro
i bid adeiu to you, a beauiful bertha

Dressed myself in green
I went down to the sea
Try to see what's going down
Maybe read between the lines
Had a feeling I was falling, falling, falling
Turned around to see
Heard a voice calling, calling, calling
You was comin after me
Back to me
I had to move
Really had to move
That's why if you please
I am on my bended knees
BERTHA WON'T YOU COME AROUND HERE SOME MORE!!!!

Support your local Hospital... GET FINNED

So you asked for substance... well when everything else was knee to thigh on the Cape; Juggernaut, Gage (needs a nickname), Jessica Rabbitt and I were catching some high tide stomach/chest shore break death drops @ Poopy Juicers... After about 50 drops I got out and noticed a sundried tomato on my foot, i rubbed it off and it was congealed blood and sand... I remember hitting my foot but thought nothing of it at the time... Instant blood loss ensued and it was off to the hospital... I want to thank Doc Luczkow and Cathie of Cape Cod Hospital for the painless repair and I promise to be out of the water for the full 10 DAYS... I swear... really I do... NOT!!!! Maybe a day or two... Thanks Angel and Gage for the on beach medical attention

Congratulation Doid on your graduation, now go earn Stink some sweet moolah so he can be a surf bum... Yeah, you too Melissa!!!

Tommy Hawk

Tyler Brodie a.k.a TOMMY HAWK (White Board)has been nagging me to get him on the blog for months now... I told him you have to earn it and today was his day... Riding a new 9'4 Stewart, Tommy Hawk had the full arsenal of hacks as he surfed with me from 6am until 7pm today... The morning session was unreal as the surfers of the apocalypse were on the house nose riding, hacking, and screaming down the line to chesties (Sorry no pictures of the Morning)... Juggernaut (Green Board) was up to his usual tricks and dominating everything that came his way... There is a special section of his signature wipeouts at the end of the album... I am also grateful as he played paparrazi to one of my sessions (Red Board)...

P.S. I am thinking of adding some SUBSTANCE to the blog... any ideas???

Starving Dog in a Meat Factory

this is what i was referred to as on Sunday... after being skunked for an eternity, sunday proved to be just what the doctor ordered... I surfed a 4 hour session and a 2hour session on my new stick... if only i could do eveything for 6 hours... loads of people made the trek down to be rewarded with great lefts and rights all day... Mac bombed a 10 foot cliff and ran down the dunes... Stink, if i ever see you put your arms over your head again i am going to tackle you... WB, you stood up, you must have been constipated... CJ was owning the lefts and girlriend jen exemplified THE STOKE... Matt has a worm poop stance and he is not afraid to drop-in on the bunny pooper... even the kiters came out to try a real sport... Otherwise I owned it and you all know it!

(Special thanks to Juggernaut for guest photographer of the day)

Thruster

So one of the clan is sponsored, and its not by Advil... Holly is sponsored by eclipse kites... and she rides a Thruster... I was lucky enough to shoot her sponsor photos and have decided that there are no boundaries to my blog, whomever is near me when i have my camera is fair game...

WHO CAN DOMINATE A WAVE...

The Clam Man Can... Making his inaugural blog appearance is Ryan... on a sunny warm day Juggernaut & Mac, myself, and Clam Man surfed NotSoPublic with no one else... I missed capturing Clam Man with the camera on a right where he basically painted the entire face and lips of the wave... Jugs had some nice lefts and a few quick lefts... Anyone notice that he has surfed 62 times in the past week and a half... the man needs a break. But the highlight of the session was ryan's last wave, you be the judge, but the Clam Man Can... and he did with style!!!!

The Blog Lives

Sorry... I truly am that I have not posted in over a month... Which doesn't mean that I haven't been out there, I am just a lazy bum who enjoys Tom & Jerry and mint chocolate chip ice cream... BUT WE'RE BACK!!! Now that i have had a month to adjust to working 50-60 hours a week after doing nothing for 5 months straight, I vow to blog regularly and get off my ass after an 11 hour work day, go surfing, take pictures of all of you, then come home and upload/edit the pictures and a post a new entry!!! Not to mention try to keep the Jack Attack outta jail...

The pictures are a random compilation of surf etc.. over the past month or so with the last few pictures taken by Stinky on a super glassy day a few weeks ago... Kudos, job well done... feel free to borrow the camera anytime...

I also might just post random ramblings and our little community can hash it out with messages to each other...

O'er the Bridge and thru the woods...

Wrecking Ball- On a very rare right

WRECKING BALL IS ALL

Nothing more to say... She called me this morning and said "its gonna clean up, its got to"... I had little faith in her forecast and kept my frozen wetsuit in the garage... than around 2 i got the message that she is going in... i rushed up to Nauset Right to take some pictures of her getting beatdown... lo and behold, it cleaned up and I watched her catch a bomb, and a LEFT to boot... Heres to you Wrecking Ball on the wave of the day!!!

Wacky Wednesday

1st pic is my interpretation of the eclipse...

As for the surf, we were all waiting for the winds to start howling and get skunked but it never happened... we had fun waist to chest waves, bit mushy, and head high on the bombs... my first wave was a chest high peeler with 3 turns and then nothing, so i figured that i would just get out the ol' Nikon and salvage a rusty session... fortunately i was able to catch Stinky cutting back and "almost barrelling"... but the highlight of the session was watching Tom aka "The Professor" wait and wait and then finally just put on a demonstration... he started left, cut back and went right, was up and down the wave, gliding, and then he was out of range as he surfed them damn thing all the way from "Nauset Right" to Marconi...

Friends Don't Let Friends......

....DROP IN!!!!!!!!!

Nice SSE swell arrived with some SW winds... waves from waist to overhead... you put the pieces together of where we were... hint: ON CAPE... Long sequence showing Stinky dopping in on the Juggernaut and not having the slightest clue he was doing so... Stinky doesn't know it yet but his brake lines were given a bit of a trim... Two other shorties were out there, Derrick(Orleans) and Tim (Truro/LI), both making good use of warm water... I mean warmER weather and nice lines...

So moving forward, Do you cross the street with out looking? Do you make a left outta JoMama's in July without looking? Do you enjoy being impaled by epoxy rockets in 38 degree water???

new motto: CHECK B4U DROP

...and if you see Juggernaut ask him why he went over the falls backwards and upside down?

Red Bull One Hit Wonder @ Stratton

So its been awhile since i last posted... i've been to aruba, surfed a ton and this past saturday 2/16 i was able to shoot the Red Bull One Hit Wonder event @ Stratton Mtn... Basically the event was for kids 13-18 and a 12 foot Red Bull Feature Wall Ride was placed directly on top of an 18 foot Quarter Pipe.... 30 feet from the top... There were some good riders and some high quality carnage... hopefully i will get some surf pics up soon, especially with tuesdays swell coming... the only issue is that i would rather surf than stand in the cold taking pictures, but i guess thats the life of the paparrazzi

Not Fair

So we have been blessed with tropical weather as of late, unfortunately the swell gods are on vacation in central america... I surfed twice this past weekend, literally SHIN-Knee High at best... I can sense the anxiety from everyone, maybe its depression with the lack of waves... Stinky even got lost in the dunes of Truro looking for a ride... You would think a hurricane is coming this weekend for the waist highs that are being forecasted on the charts, either way I will see you out there...

End of Year Throwdown

Friday brought some head to overhead swell to Nauset Beach, the shortboarders were ripping and a few longboarders caught some big bombs way outside at Liam's, Juggernaut scored the wave of the day, an overhead left with tons of face to it, Wrecking Ball even scored a cut back as well as one of the funniest shore break ass whoopings I have seen in quite some time...Sorry for the delay but I was getting my shred on up at Loon this weekend, nothing better than some surf and turf...

Big Wednesday

Wednesday brought some overhead and a few double overhead sets to the Cape... No longboarders could make it through the shore break and rips but some seasoned shortboarders made it out for some of the best waves of the fall season... Sorry the slideshow is so long, but there were some great sequences and some epic waves... Towards the beginning of the slide show there is a wave that Casey was bottom turning and if you look in the upper left hand corner you can see he had some dorsal fin company...

Total Domination 11-17-07

So todays surf forecast on a local surfshop's website as follows:
The surf today is ankle high. The conditions today are clean and very small. Not worth it on a cold day.

Well, Captain Juggernaut, Stinky the Dominator, the Wrecking Ball, Pinky and Barbie, and yours truly, Duck, or Ducky, or DuckHead, managed to have a great session @ the Light in the freezing cold ankle biters... see the slideshow... I have no idea where these guys get their surf reports, skaket??? plus its only gonna get colder... well i got a nikon d40 for my 30th b-day and will add more photos of these numnuts trying to surf amongst other crap that i see...

Enjoy...
